Buddle Atkinson Family Roots
OUR HISTORY
The Buddle-Atkinson name started with the marriage of Eleanor Buddle & Smart Atkinson. Eleanor was the sister of the eminent colliery viewer come mining engineer John Buddle Jnr.
Eleanor & Smart's son Robert Thomas Atkinson followed his uncle John Buddle Jnr in the family business of mining engineering, unfortunately he passed away only two years after the death of Buddle Jnr.
Robert's estate was worth a significant amount, as he inherited a significant portion of Buddle Jnr 's £150,000 estate. The estate was managed by trustees on behalf of Robert's wife and children, until his son Buddle Atkinson reached full age.
Buddle bought a property called Woolley Grange at Bradford on Avon, where he with his wife Clara Elizabeth Draper raised their children. In 1880, he passed away after a fall from a Gig; upon which time Clara applied for a Heraldic Coat of Arms in memory of her late husband.
This Coat of Arms is pictured here.
