Thomas Burnet & Mary Ingledue​

This is the story of Thomas & Mary Burnet.  Thomas was born about 1760 in Chester-le-Street, Durham and Mary was born in 1772.  They were married on the 9th of January at St Andrews, Aukland, Durham.

 

The Burnet's played an integral role in the lives of the Buddle Atkinson family in the early 1800's, as there were a number of marriages between the Buddle, Atkinson and Burnet families. 

 

Firstly Thomas' brother, Whitfield Burnet married Eleanor's sister Mary Buddle.  Then there were the two Burnet-Atkinson marriages between the children of Thomars & Mary and Smart & Eleanor.

 

It is believed that Thomas Burnet Jnr first married Ann Elizabeth Atkinson, however we have not yet found a marriage licence or register for this marriage; they did however give birth to their first child in 1829; some four years before Robert Thomas Atkinson married Mary Burnet.
