Mary Longstaff​

Smart was born on the 5th of September 1811 at West Boldon, Co. Durham.   Mary was born on the 15th of December 1810 at Barnard Castle.  They were married on the 7th of February 1832 at Barnard Castle.

 

At the time of their marriage, Smart was noted as being a farmer in St Pauls Parish in Jarrow, Co Durham.  He remained a farmer throughout his life and by 1861 had moved to Low Beaumont Hill, where he was a farmer of 251 acres.  He remained here till his death in 1872.  Mary continued to run the farm till her death in 1885.

 

They had eight children in total.

 

Smart died in the December Quarter of 1872 and his death is registered in Darlington, Co. Durham. Mary passed away in July of 1885 at Low Beaumont Hill, Whessoe, presumably at home.
