Smart Atkinson Fothergill & Elizabeth Victoria Fothergill

Yes this is her maiden name, they were 1st cousins once removed.
 
Smart was born about 1839 or 1840, he was baptised on the 10th March, 1840 at St. Peters in Wallsend.  Elizabeth was born about 1840  at Benwell Colliery, Benwell.  They married in Scarbourough, North Riding, Yorkshire in September of 1863.
 
They had ten children.

In 1861 Smart was baording at 149 Great Dover Street, Lewington and was studying Medicine. In the time between their marriage and 1871, it appears that they were on the move as Leopold was born in Shropshire and Florence & Nellie were born in Somerset.
 
By 1871, Smart is a Surgeon and the family is living in Hesket New Market, Caldbeck Haltcliff. In 1881 they are living in Haswell and Smart is noted as a Physician & Surgeon and the family is now complete with nine of the children still living at home, Josephine is apparently not living with them by now. In 1891, they are living in Haswell Lane, Haswell, Leoplod is now noted as a medical student & Henry is a Blacksmith. By 1901, the family has moved to Baker Street, Haswell and John Buddle is a Gardener, while Charles is a Blacksmith & Horse Shoer; at the time of this census, two of their grandschildren are staying with them.
 
Smart passes away on the 30th of January 1906 at the age of 67.
 
Elizabeth is still living in Haswell in 1911 and has two of her grand children & Nellie living with her.  She passes away in the September quarter of 1922 at Easington, Durham.
