Smart was born on the 21st of June, 1872 in Southwick, Durham.  In July 1892, he married Jane Mary Owen at West Derby, Lancashire. Jane was born about 1872 in Birkenhead, Cheshire.

 

They had two sons, meanwhile Jenny died in January 1908 in Bangor, Wales.  Smart remarried to a Cecillia (unknown maiden name) in the December quarter of 1909. In 1901 he is described as a professional footballer; living in Liscard, Cheshire. By 1911 he is a Pier Toll Collector, now returned to live in Bangor, Wales.

 

He died in the December 1947 in Bangor.
