Buddle Atkinson &

Clara Elizabeth Draper

Buddle married Clara in 1863, they had five children, with the first, Lilian dying when only a few days old. This was devastating for Clara, who eighteen months later gave birth to Frank, Buddle's eventual heir & beneficiary. Two years after the birth of Aline, Buddle was critically injured when the gig he was driving toppled over and crashed, he passed away from his injuries at only 39 years of age.

In 1886, Clara married Dr. John Bell Simpson, after which she and all the children moved back to County Durham with Simpson and his five children from his first marriage, his wife had passed away in 1882.  Clara and John had another child, making their combined family a total of ten children.

In 1882, in Buddle's name, Clara was awarded an Armorial Coat of Arms. "Deo et Regis Fidelis"
