James Francis Draper

& Matilda Finucane​

James & Matlida were both born in St Peter Port on the island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands. He was born on the 4th of October 1807 & she was born on the 27th of November 1808.

 

Like his father before him and his two brothers, James was a hat maker or milliner.  They lived for most of their lives on Guernsey, with James being widowed by 1861, it not yet known where Matilda died, though as James lived in Guernsey, it is suspected she died and is buried there.

 

They had six children.  In 1861 he employed 2 men, 2 women & 1 boy in his hat making enterprise.

 

James must have moved to England to live at Southampton some time between 1871 & 1881.  He passed away at 19 Oxford Street, Southampton on the 27th of March, 1882 at the age of 75.
