& John Thompson Batey

Elizabeth was the third child of Robert & Elizabeth, born at Southwick, Durham, on 7/5/1857.  On 22/5/1875 she married John, born April 1854 in Sunderland, Durham.

In 1881, they had two children and they lived at 6 Alderson Street, Bishopwearmouth.  By 1891, they had moved to 11 Anne St, Bishopwearmouth; by which time they had five children. However, since 1881, they had a son John T Batey who died in 1890.  John was a bottle maker and by this time, their eldest son, Robert,  was an apprentice bottle maker.

By 1901, they had moved again to 3 John St, Sunderland.  They now only had three children living at home, however they had had one more child. Their fith child Henry is now also working at the glass works as a labourer.

In 1911 they had yet again moved, this time to 23 Black Crescent Row, Deptford, Sunderland.  They still had the two youngest sons, Thomas & John, living at home and they were both labourers at the glass works.

During all of his life, John was a bottle maker.

Eleanor & William had seven children in all, with one, John Thompson Jnr dying at nine years of age.

Eleanor passed away in September 1939 in North Eastern Durham.  We have been unable to determine when John died.
