Robert Atkinson Newton

& Elizabeth Gray

Robert Atkinson Newton was born the second child of Eleanor & William at Fulwell, Durham, on 4/7/1828, he married Elizabeth Gray, born about 1831 in Monkwearmouth, Durham.
 
They were married on 29/10/1850 in Southwick, Durham.
 
They had seven children, with Mary Ann dying as a young child at about 3 years of age.
 
In 1851, William is listed as a Shipwright, now a seaman, it appears he was a seagoing shipwright.  In 1861 & '71 he is a ship carpenter, while in 1881 he is described as a sawyer.  His son John Buddle was also a ship's carpenter.  On the 1881 census, both Eleanor & William were living with their son George.  They lived their entire lives in and around Tynemouth.
 
Robert died in October of 1907 at Sunderland, Durham aged 79.  Elizabeth died October 1905 in Co. Durham.
