William Newton

Eleanor was born the second child of Smart & Eleanor at Monkwearmouth on 18/11/1805, she married William Newton, born 15/12/1803 in Shiel Dyke, Northumberland. They were married on 13/2/1826 in Christ Church, Tynemouth, Northumberland.

They had nine children, their firstborn, Smart (b. 1826) must have died, as Samuel became known as Smart at some stage.

In 1851, William is listed as a Shipwright, then a seaman, it appears he was a seagoing shipwright.  In 1861 & '71 he is a ship carpenter, while in 1881 he is described as a sawyer.  His son John Buddle was also a ship's carpenter.  On the 1881 census, both Eleanor & William were living with their son George.  They lived their entire lives in and around Tynemouth.

William died in July of 1882 at Tynemouth, Northumberland.  Eleanor died 10/11/1885 in County Durham.
